Christopher Mooney is an accomplished artist who paints urban landscapes filled with all the moods of city life. His large oils on canvas are often based on views of the many bridges of Portland, OR and other cities. Mooney's compositions of bridges are anything but run-of-the–mill. He paints them from an unusual point of view giving them a dramatic perspective which makes them both realistic and abstract at the same time. Light plays an important role in his paintings, illuminating the structure of the bridges, casting shadows and making the viewer aware of the visual dynamics of the scene. Portland is a city of rivers and bridges. Mooney's fascination is with how the geometric shapes of the bridge's steel girders frame the landscape of the city.
